Early identification of childhood hearing loss is of crucial importance to the child’s language development and academic performance. On the other hand, undiagnosed and unmanaged hearing loss during childhood places a significant risk of language delay, poor academic performance, and reduced social confidence.
Outcomes may be greatly improved by early identification of hearing loss and appropriate follow-up care. If there are concerns for your child’s language development or listening behaviors, your physician may recommend audiology testing to rule out underlying hearing loss.

Consumer Fraud Alert Scams
https://oig.hhs.gov/fraud/consumer-alerts/
The Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General has encountered a wide variety of scams in which fraudsters use technology to impersonate official government personnel from HHS or OIG. These scammers target individuals through various methods, including phone, email, or social media in an attempt to obtain money or personal, medical, or financial information. Scammers may claim they need information to settle a debt, verify medical claims, or to provide grant money. Once these criminals have your personal information, they will use it to steal money from you or commit fraud.
The public should remain vigilant for such scams. Relay services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, with no limit on the number or length of calls a user may make. By law, every call is handled with the strictest confidentiality. Special features are available for individuals who have difficulty speaking, as well as Spanish-speaking and sign language users.

Virginia Office of State Long-Term Care Ombudsman
https://www.elderrightsva.org/
Ombudsmen advocate for older persons receiving long term care services, whether the care is provided in a nursing home or assisted living facility, or through community-based services to assist persons still living at home. We provide older Virginians, their families and the public with information, advocacy, and assistance to help resolve care problems.
We work to resolve problems of individual residents and groups of residents to bring about changes at the local, state and national levels to improve care and quality of life. The cornerstone of this work is Residents’ Rights. While many people receive good long term care services, others encounter problems and neglect.
Ombudsmen, both paid staff and volunteers, provide help and a voice for those that are not heard or unable to speak for themselves.
The Ombudsman Program also has Advocates that assist individuals who are participants in the Commonwealth Coordinated Care Plus (CCC+). Medicaid Managed Care Advocates help to resolve problems with plan coverage, assessing plan benefits, health care, behavioral health care and long-term care services and supports.
